Strong School Redevelopment Project

In 2021, the City of New Haven (the “City”), working collaboratively with a community advisory committee and Interboro Partners prepared a planning study for the adaptive reuse of the vacant Horace H. Strong School (“Strong School”) located at 69 Grand Avenue.

In Summer 2022, the City, using the planning study as a guide, then developed a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) to retain an experienced and qualified developer who would submit a contextually appropriate and financially feasible plan to redevelop the Strong School site in a manner generally consistent with prior planning efforts. This RFP offered an opportunity to revitalize an attractive iconic asset while reintroducing a strong anchor into the Fair Haven neighborhood.
