Amusement
This includes: Bowling Alley, Coin Operated Device/ Machine Distributers; Game Rooms, Pool Table, and Street Performance.
Auction/Auctioneer
Auction: means a transaction conducted by means of exchanges between an auctioneer and the members of his audience. It constitutes a series of invitations for offers for the purchase of goods or articles of personal property made by the auctioneer, offers by members of the audience, and the acceptance of the highest or most favorable offer.
Auctioneer: means an individual who calls bids at an auction.

Broker
This includes: Secondhand Dealers, Antique and/or Precious Metal Dealers, Pawnbrokers, Junk Dealers and Swap Shop Dealers
Rooming House
Rooming Unit: shall mean any room or group of rooms forming a single habitable unit used or intended to be used for living and sleeping, but not for cooking or eating purposes.
Rooming House: means any dwelling, or part thereof containing one (1) or more rooming house units; in which space is approved by the owner or operator to hours (4) or more persons.
This term includes but is not limited to: Hotels, Motels, Group Living, fraternities and sororities that are not located on land owned by educational institutions, Residential Occupancies and dwellings located in the City of New Haven.
This term excludes: Hospitals, homes for the aged, community residences and health care facilities that are otherwise regulated by state law.
Sales
This includes: Closing out Sales, Door-to-Door Solicitors, and Tag Sales.
Street Vendors/Peddlers
Effective July 1st 2017 the vending ordinance has been updated!
Street Vendor: means any person who engages in selling or bartering, or carrying for sale or barter, or exposing therefore, any goods, wares or merchandise, either on foot or from any animal or vehicle.

Note: These applications are strictly for one-day vendors not attended a Special Event. Such as Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Easter etc. Daily applications submitted for Special Events will be denied, see Vending Umbrella Application.
No Daily Applications Can Be Submitted for Any Special Vending Districts! No Exceptions!

Note: These applications must be completed and submitted by the Event Organizer only! Vending Umbrella Licenses must be submitted 2 weeks prior to the event and must have the appropriate events permit submitted before VUL application can be accepted.
