The City of New Haven, SCRCOG, and consultant partners SLR Consulting and VHB, have undertaken further study of several downtown streets so they may be converted from one-way to two-way. With downtown New Haven’s continued growth and vitality comes increasing demand for safe and sustainable modes of transportation, guided by Vision Zero principles. Improving downtown New Haven’s streets is a key element in the community’s quality of life and the safety and mobility of its citizens. This project has vetted potential modifications to segments of York Street, Church Street, Chapel Street, and George Street in the downtown.
A final report with conceptual-design plans for this project has been completed and can be viewed here. This document will assist the City and SCRCOG in subsequently securing funding toward full design and implementation of the two-way conversion.
