On behalf of the proud professional men and women of the New Haven Fire Department, I want to thank Mayor Justin Elicker and the New Haven Board of Alders for their continued support for our department. We are committed to providing the highest quality and highest level of courteous and responsive services to the citizens of New Haven. This is accomplished by implementing comprehensive strategies and training in fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical services, and all risk mitigation and all-hazard response, including: human-caused and natural disasters, emergency preparedness, 9-1-1 services and community-based fire services.
I come to the City of New Haven, after spending 31 years as a member of the Jersey Fire Department. I rose through the ranks from fire fighter to that of Deputy Fire Chief, Chief of Staff and Chief of Special Operations. I want to publicly thank the City of New Haven and Public Safety Professionals who welcomed my family and me, with this greater opportunity to serve in the profession I hold dearly.
The New Haven Fire Department will provide protection of life, property, and the environment from the effects of fires, medical emergencies, and hazards; we engage the community in our mission through progressive community outreach and the use of technology.
The members of the New Haven Fire Department take pride in our commitment to professional service by maintaining our skills, knowledge and abilities. All members of the Department will conduct themselves in an ethical manner conforming to a moral standard of right versus wrong by treating each other and the people we serve humanely, decently, and honestly.
Yours in Public Safety, Education, Training and Response,
John A. Alston, Jr.
Fire Chief
